Welcome to the center of my world. I have many pictures of my desks through the years, but this is my favorite. It's not the most-recent and most of this stuff is in boxes, but it will be reborn! Listed in no particular order are the things I need to fully think:
- Main computer unit
- Motherboard: Supermicro X10DAX (bogus "extended ATX" is not standard, and I had to drill/tap holes to provide additional standoffs)
- CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 @ 2.4 GHz (with hyperthreading and prefetching disabled, and won't ever buy Intel again); each cooled silently via sealed pump/radiator
- RAM: 4x 16 GB (64 GB) 2133 MT/s DDR4 ECC SDRAM
- Storage
- Boot: 960 GB "zroot" zpool mirrored across two SSDs, geli-encrypted
- Home: 8 TB auxillary zpool mirrored across two HDDs, geli-encrypted, with a 960 GB L2ARC
- Optical: Blu-ray, CD-RW, CD-ROM
- Backup: 12 TB off-site
- Network: 2x 1 Gbps, LAGG; across that are VLANs for hosted services
- Graphics: Radeon HD 6870 (primary), Radeon HD 7750 (auxillary, sometimes used with bhyve experiments)
- Monitors: 27" Dell IPS 1080p, 70" Vizio LCD 1080p
- Software: FreeBSD 12.1 with MATE desktop; self-compiled kernel, world, and ports
- Public serveres use qemu because I have safety concerns about VT-d
- Private servers use bhyve because building software takes chooch
- Uninterruptable power supply
- Kinesis Advantage 2 keyboard with Cherry Brown switches and 1.7" mini touchpad
- Logitech Marble Mouse (probably my fifth one)
- Plustek OpticFilm 8200i for scanning film
- Fujitsu fi-4120C, a duplex ADF scanner used for scanning books
- Kodak bulk CD burner/ripper
- Brother DL-700 label printer
- 2013 Mac Mini with a DIY 1.25 TB "fusion" drive
- Microphone and mixer/amplifier for smooth talking
- Logitech "Extreme 3D Pro" (ugh) joystick, used for flight simulator
- 8' x 30" x 1.75" maple butcher's block benchtop on electrfied steel legs, LED ambient lighting
- Ikea cubbies
- A plain old telephone (Trimline 210, auxillary to my payphone)
- Empty bowl of cereal
