Backup workflow

Ever since I started using a PogoPlug as my web server, ddBackupManager has been left untouched. Instead, I’ve just been archiving /etc and /srv as a .tar.bz2 to a secondary flash drive. For all intents and purposes, this has been working swimmingly. However, now the archives are growing quite large.

Using Git for backup seems like a great idea. A simple web search will yield countless examples of using version control systems for user directory backups. And, for me, it seems like it would work well for my server backups since /etc is just filled with text files, and the only “binary” files in my /srv directory are my SQLite databases. I’m seriously looking into this.
